General Description
The uP9533P is an AMD® SVI3 compliant CPU voltage regulator controller, which has three output rails VDDA(Rail A), VDDB(Rail B) and VDDC(Rail C) for mobile/desktop applications. The phase number configuration of this device is fixed 8+2+1 phase.
To provide more cost-effective and space-saving solution, this device features configurable output type for the third rail VDDC (Rail C). The Rail C output can be set to SVI3 type 1 or type 2 via NVM, while Rail A and Rail B are fixed at SVI3 type 1. For mobile application, Rail C output is set to type 1. For desktop application, Rail C output is set to type 2, which means the separate type 2 converter/PWM controller is not required. Therefore, uP9533P is an ideal single-chip solution with less board space and cost for the desktop application.
This part also features 5V or 3.3V PWM output swing, which is selected via NVM. The selectable PWM output swing function allows 5V or 3.3V driver/DrMOS to be used.
The uP9533P uses lossless inductor DCR current sense for all kinds of current-related functions, such as output voltage droop (load line), over current protection, phase current limit and phase current balance.
The uP9533P implements NVM to store device configurations and regulator operation parameter settings, including the aforementioned phase number configuration and Rail C output type. Similar to digital based PWM controller, the device configurations, operation parameters, control loop gain, output current, output voltage, fault condition and many other functions are conveniently adjusted or monitored via the I2C interface.
This part provides hardware setting pin to set the global operation parameters, such as I2C device address, switching frequency and dynamic VID boost function. This device utilizes differential output voltage sense, input voltage sense and adaptive voltage positioning (AVP) to provide accurately regulated voltage for desktop and mobile CPU. The uP9533P adopts uPI’s proprietary RCOT+TM (Robust Constant On-Time) control topology to have fast transient response and smooth operation mode transition.
The uP9533P provides comprehensive fault protection functions, including over voltage protection, under voltage protection, over current protection, phase current limit, over temperature protection and input under voltage lockout. The uP9533P is available in WQFN8x8 – 72L package.
