Using the latest 16 Phase 90A Dr.MOS & 2oz Copper PCBs, it delivers up to 95% VRM efficiency. To keep VRM’s and 10-core processors cool even during sustained heavy loads or even overclocking, the Z490 AQUA features an advanced water cooling system that decreases heat on the CPU VRMs to reduce VRM temps dramatically.

Decked in a matte black undershell, the Z490 complements what young gamers want in a machine these days, simple, refined edges encased with a metallic armor which highlights the vibrant, techno LED lighting which screams I’m a water cooling aficionado and a PC mod enthusiast. “Be Aqua, Be Cool” highlights ASRock’s determination to be the frontrunner in water-cooled gaming motherboard manufacturers and the PCIe 4.0 ready means it’s prepped and the hardware is ready with PCI-Express Gen-4 support. By uniquely adding an external base clock generator, PCIe 4.0 components such as extra slots and an M.2 socket it’s assured the motherboard is ready to accommodate the next generation of CPUs.

The motherboard utilizes uPI’s uP9521R, uP1961S, and uP1962 complete Vcore solution.

The uP9521 is an IMVP8 compliant desktop CPU voltage regulator controllerthat integrates a 4-phase PWM controller for Vcore and a 3-phase PWMcontroller for VccGT. The Vcore controller can be configured as 4/3/2/1- phaseand the VccGT controller can be configured as 3/2/ 1-phase for platform powerdesign flexibility. This part outputs PWM signal to external MOSFET driver todrive the buck power stage. The integrated SMBus interface programmabilitymakes this part with high performance and easy design. Designer can definedifferent power scenario for different current states to optimize theperformance and efficiency.

The uP1961S is a high performance gate driver IC with Phase Extension Module(PEM). The PEM interleaves the single PWM input and drives dual-phasesynchronous buck power stages. The PEM also extracts and passes the dualphasecurrent signals to the controller. When operating with uPI’s VRcontrollers with DCR current balance scheme, the uP1961S can double thephase number with perfect phase interleaving and channel current balancing.

The uP1962 is a dual, high voltage MOSFET driver optimized for driving two NchannelMOSFETs in a synchronous-rectified buck converter. Each driver iscapable of driving a 5000pF capacitive load with 30ns transition time. Thisdevice combined with uPI multi-phase buck PWM controller forms a completecore voltage regulator for advanced microprocessors.
